Hello, my name’s Toria and I blog over at Welsh Pixie. When Sarai mentioned her spring colour palette challenge it sounded like a great idea and I immediately started daydreaming about pastels, barely there shades and neutrals all ready for Spring. I’d recently discovered Lola’s Room on Etsy and it was the photographs available in her shop that began to inspire my daydreaming.
And then I looked out the window and remembered I live in Wales. Spring here is celebrated as the national flower, the daffodil, begins to bloom on or around Dydd Gwyl Dewi Sant (St David’s Day) on March 1st when custom dictates children are dressed in traditional Welsh costume for the day. And everywhere you look there are umbrellas because, in Wales, it rains. A lot.
Spring for me, in reality, is about practical and functional clothing. It’s about introducing colour back into my wardrobe after a winter of dark blues, browns and greys. It’s about florals adding interest and pattern to my wardrobe staples. And, most importantly, it’s about working my wellies and brolly into my daily outfits as often as necessary.
This year I’ve decided to take a leaf out of nature’s book and add yellow to my Spring wardrobe. It will work nicely with the browns and the blues I already own, particularly as my winter wardrobe is unlikely to be retired until around May. To that end, and for a nice inspirational kick up the butt, I bought these fab shoes, because – let’s face it – a girl can’t live in wellies all day.
A bit of shopping for a cardigan and a little bit of sewing Style 3894 and Style 4909 and I’m hoping I’ll be able to put together an outfit not unlike the below, spotted on Nadinoo from a Pinceau Collection, just in time for St David’s Day. Perfect for Spring in Wales, cheerful yet practical. And colour appropriate for the day!
